We are delighted to have another fabulous review come in today from our Preview Night last night for our upcoming Dec 14th Holiday Show at the VFW Burbank.
WE HAD A BLAST LAST NIGHT!
At Angela O’Neill’s “technical-rehearsal” for her holiday show being performed tomorrow the 14th at the VFW- the Veterans of Foreign Wars hall located at 1006 Magnolia Blvd in Burbank. So much fun! All I can say is GET YOUR TICKETS and GO ENJOY yourselves! We thank her for graciously and generously inviting us to come sit in. She treated me at their bar, to a peppermint martini..yumm. Angela surrounded herself with powerhouse musicians and great guest vocalists. I think of Angela as a cross between a jazz diva and a Broadway theatre star. Her polished professionalism gives her a unique stage-presence and a total command of her domain. She lives to sing and perform and she conveys that. With energy, power and grace, she and her band treat us all to favorite Christmas classics and to standards from the Great American Songbook such as “S’Wonderful” and “Summertime.” The musicians are all excellent and I especially liked the trombone playing and arrangements of Harry Smallenberg and the sax of Jay Stolmack. Al Timss.. a vocalist from Latvia was great fun and Kat Hopkins, as always was great joining the vocal trio on a rousing “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree!” A very memorable evening of GREAT MUSIC EXPLODING in that intimate space!
Angela says “My father is a Navy Veteran and so I'm very grateful to contribute to the "Veterans of Foreign wars" entertainment docket.”
There are 8 members to the band... Founding member and Musical Director Sam Morgan is an outstanding soloist on the Tenor and he has such energy that he makes it soo much fun to do music. Michael Rosen, a fantastic drummer and he also produces and masters our recorded music, Harry Smallenburg plays trombone and also does the vast majority of the one of a kind Octet arrangements that are done only for our band. Paul Litteral on trumpet. he has an incredible resume' as a player having played with Ray Charles, James Brown, Sammy Davis, and many more. Stand up bass Player, Phil Romo is a musician, artist and educator. Hank Mehren..is on the piano, Ron Cyger plays some fantastic , heart wrenching solos on his alto and soprano sax. the room is hushed when Ron plays with such heart and soul. Richard Walker plays such a beautiful, and skilled flute player and then can pick up the Bari sax and holds down the low end.
And finally, our very special guest male vocalist, Al Timss. Born and raised in Latvia.
Our thanks to Joel Rothberg
